1) Plug your eReader into your computer 2) Use browser to visit 3) Download and Install Kobo Desktop. Startup is 16seconds and shutdown two seconds.Ī small four point instruction sheet should be enough to get you started even if you are totally new to book readers. It has just the on/off slider on the top and a micro USB lead for charging and transferring items to and from the unit. The screen is 10x7.5cm and the weight is 128grams, it will fit into a small pocket.Ī typical page has sixteen lines of text and up to forty four characters a line the type is however clear and easy to read. This unit measures 13x10x1cm less at the edges. The Kobo Mini does not have a backlight so it can only be used in daylight or where there is reasonable lighting - so no reading under the bedclothes - and my old eyes needed to be around 25cm from the text for comfortable reading. The Kobo Glo is available from the link below for £99.99 To do this or to purchase extra books you need a secondary unit such as a PC for linking them. Should you have more than one device then they can be linked so that whatever you are reading can be read on the other unit. Sixteen lines of text and up to fifty characters a line, I found that comfortable to read at about 35cm away from my eyes. ![]() Another slide or the slider and you return to where you were in whatever you are reading however I found this took around 25 seconds to happen, maybe a little slow. As this uses virtually no power in sleep that is not a problem the only significant power is used to turn the page unless of course you are using the backlight. I found a slide of the slider and three seconds later you have an illustration on the screen showing you are in sleep mode. The other button is a slider for on or to return to standby. While reading in daylight is fine it is also possible to read at night with little or no light by using the smaller button on the top which is described as the 'Comfort Light' but of course use of this will lessen the time between recharge. Really I need to go see each of the devices in person, but it's a pain because the only place I can find the Aura in stock is Best Buy, and the Glo is only at a local bookseller's, so I can't hold them side by side. The viewable screen is 12.2x9cm. I would like to be able to read in the dark without bothering someone sleeping next to me. I think I like the Aura's light better because it's more yellowy rather than blue, and I've heard some people have issues getting the Glo to be dim enough. I know most people recommend tablets for heavy manga reading. cbr/.cbz better, although this isn't a deciding issue for me. I primarily read epub books but occasionally read some comics or manga (on the computer, not on my Sony), so it'd be nice to know which of these handles. I'll probably get a case for my new e-reader and try to be more gentle with it, but I am a klutz and it will inevitably get dropped sometime. The last thing I want is something like the original frontlit Nook that got "light holes" super easily. But I haven't read much about the durability of either the Aura or the Glo. I'm concerned that the Aura might be a lot less durable because there's no screen bezel. I throw it in my purse and never use a case, I have dropped it several times and not even a scratch. Honestly I'll probably be happy with either one, upgrading from such an old device, but here are my main criteria: I've narrowed it down to the Kobo Glo and the Kobo Aura, but I can't decide between them. But now that I know I like ebooks, I'm thinking about upgrading. I've been doing so much more reading ever since. ![]() I discovered the world of e-readers last summer when I bought a used Sony PRS-300 on Ebay for $10 and fell in love.
